Copper hills grew into existence during the early 1900s as a camp for the Arizona Commercial Iron Cap, Superior and Boston Mines. This once prosperous community expanded to approximately 500 people by 1925. Sufficient business enterprises followed and Copper Hills was equipped with it's own hospital, school, post office and general store.
However, this small town’s glory was short-lived and five years later, only forty people remained as the Arizona Commercial Company was not producing enough to keep the town profitable. The Great Depression marked an end of the town with an exception of historical remains including concrete structures, mining ruins, tailings and foundations scattered throughout the canyons.
Today Copper Hills exists as Copper Canyon Ranches, a private 4700 acre sub-division in Gila County, AZ just minutes from the City of Globe. Copper Canyon Ranches is comprised of 191 Suburban Ranch properties offering a unique and quiet rural environment bountiful with clear blue skies and zero night pollution.
